ABOUT US


MISSION STATEMENT

VANSDA'S mission is to improve the quality of life for African Nova Scotians in the Valley by creating Partnerships in Employment, Training and Government/Economic Development. Our focus will be on increasing employment opportunities and community development.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The organization, is guided by a number of volunteer members that make up its' Board of Directors. These individuals come from various parts of the Valley, representing communities or organizations with an interest in the development of the African Nova Scotian community. Each Board member plays a vital role as a contact person from the community to the organization.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

By developing and implementing a wide range of programs and initiatives (including justice, tourism and education) along with providing access to the various employment programs, VANSDA is determined to be a leader in the continued integration of African Canadians into all aspects of life in western Nova Scotia. We strive to develop the whole community by breaking down barriers and enabling a strong,welcoming and healthy communiity throughout western Nova Scotia to exist.

OUR STAFF


Robert Ffrench
Executive Director

Now in his 10th year at the helm of the organization. Oversees the day to day operations of the organization and staff. Under his direction the organization has grown in prominance and continues to expand it's services offered.

"We have been able to witness and lead real change and success in the short history of the organization. The real challenge is to continue in our attempts to advance the community foward to a point where successes become the norm."


Debi Sponagle
Office Administrator

The organization's Office Administrator with primary duties of assisting the Executive Director in areas of financial mangement and contract development. Her role has continued to expand with the growth VANSDA has undergone. With a strong and diverse Bookkeeping background, Deb has proven a valuable member to the VANSDA team.


Lisa Diggs
Career Path Counsellor

Lisa has through her hard work and pursuit of additional training been able to see her change roles within the organization. As a Career Path Counsellor she assists clients in their pursuit of employment goals.The longest serving member of the VANSDA team Lisa looks forward to continuing in her role of assisting community members.


Manu Davies
Project Manager - TIOW

Manu joined the VANSDA staff after long service with Annapolis Valley Regional School Board. Her background in counselling has benefited the organization and provided her the ability in assiting to resolve many of the issues faced by VANSDA clients. She has been integral in the delivery of the educational programs VANSDA offers along with her role as Project Manager for the Targeted Initiative for Older Workers Program.


Britt Traynor
Project Manager- Youth Programs

Brittany has brought new ideas and energy to the organization. Now in her 2nd year as a Project Manager she continues to assume greater responsibilities and provide support in all areas. Brittany has become the primary youth project facilitator and brings a fresh approach in helping to alleviate the issue of high youth unemployment.


Jacqueline Rhynard
Bookkeeper

Jacqueline provides additional support services and bookkeeping to the organization. She has been with VANSDA since it's inception and her willingness to assist wherever needed is valued.
